Heading back to Finland and evaluating my internship

The journey from Estonia back to Finland went really well. My girlfriend was traveling with me, which made the trip fun and feel much faster since we spent the whole time chatting, and we didn’t face any problems along the way. Now that I am back and my international internship is coming to an end, it is time to look back at my professional growth.

During my time abroad, I have been actively involved in device installation and maintenance tasks. Safety and quality have been the number one priority every single day. I have consistently used an ESD wrist strap connected to the ground to ensure that static electricity does not damage any sensitive components inside the computers, keeping the customer’s device fully protected. In our workshop, my task was to locate faults and think about the smartest way to repair them. Whenever I encountered a tricky repair, I worked alongside our local head technician, and learning directly from an experienced professional taught me the correct industry standards.

Testing was also a continuous and mandatory part of our daily workflow. Every single time a repair or modification was made, the device underwent thorough testing to guarantee that the customer receives their equipment back in perfect condition. If the tests were not done, the device simply could not be returned to the customer, which taught me a lot about professional responsibility.

Working abroad allowed me to observe how different working methods and cultural habits affect the outcome of the work. The working culture here is highly structured, and processes are followed very precisely, which ensures that fewer mistakes happen during repairs. I also got to assist various customers in practical matters, and we even had Finnish customers visit our shop a couple of times. I was able to use my native language to bridge the communication gap, which showed the value of having an international team.

This international work period has been a huge step forward for my career. It proved that I can adapt to an international environment and succeed in my field using English. The professional competence I gained, especially in structured troubleshooting, teamwork, and strictly following quality standards, is something I will definitely utilize in my future jobs back in Finland.
